  • 30th Anniversary Delegation to Mito Report

Eighteen Anaheim Sister Cities Association members attended the 30-year anniversary festivities in Mito, Japan on November 2006. The group arrived in Tokyo and, after a day of site seeing, the group was driven to Mito and the anniversary festivities. The ASCA members enjoyed a tour of Mito city’s sites upon our arrival. On November 17, ASCA president Marge Conway, Mr. Hataya, Mito City Association Chairman, Mr. Komori, Anaheim City Council members Sidhu and Galloway, Mito Mayor Kato, Mito City officials, and Mito City Association members dedicated a solid granite bridge, unveiled a stone monument and benches and tables in Anaheim Square. Members went to Anaheim Way and viewed the Friendship Statue, a previous remembrance of our sister city relationship. The members were welcomed at City Hall with a band and several well-wishers. A reception was held that evening at the Keisei Hotel. The final day in Mito included a tour of the International Center where two large rooms document our sister city relationship from the beginning to present day. We also toured the Mito Tower and other points of interest. The evening was spent with many Mito families who invited different members groups for dinner. Several of those families were parents of former students. Some association members, friend and students came to say good-bye to the ASCA group as we left for the remainder of our tour that included Mt. Fuji, Hakano, and Kyoto. The two days in Kyoto included touring many of the renowned Kyoto shrines and Temples. The ASCA group left Japan full of wonderful memories.
